Hello and thank you for your message. I am not going to add new stuff to Amilcar Cabral article. I've just added another category to his article. No, I'm not a folklorist, but generally I am interested in American history and African-Americans too. I have still a lot to do. Thank you for joining Wikipedia. I hope you will enjoy it. - Darwinek 09:28, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Done, Botkin moved. All you need to do is to click on the "move" button which is on top and follow the instructions. And please, next time when you will be adding categories to some people, make it in this style [[Category:Folklorists|Lomax, John]]. People are sorted by surname in categories. I am from the Czech Republic, but I am a Pole. Where are you from? - Darwinek 19:27, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
[Posted to User:Brookie] I'm just curious why you deleted the paragraph on Botkin's values and beliefs about multiculturalism, as well as calling him the "Father of Public Folklore." I will write a longer Botkin entry at some point, but was wondering what about that merited striking from the discussion? Bruxism 23:22, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

- The edits were an attempt to bring the article into some sort of tidy order and NPOV; as a phrase "Father of Public Folklore" strikes me as quite meaningless - I have no idea what it is meant to mean! If you are happy then please rv my changes! :) A curate's egg 08:34, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

After I submitted it I worried it would seem like I was following you around and criticizing things. :-) I see I'm a month late to say this, but welcome to Wikipedia anyhow, and if I can ever be helpful again, please drop me a note on my talk page. Thanks for your hard work -- it's always energizing to see other people contributing. :-) Jwrosenzweig 23:25, 15 July 2005 (UTC)

In "Mythology", you referred to the word "narrative" as technical. Not that I disagree with you (the change makes little difference), but what exactly did you mean by that?elvenscout742 22:22, 21 July 2005 (UTC)

Deleted info
I deleted the info because MediaWiki conveniently makes it available via the history. It was certainly useful information, as you said, that needed rewriting, but the article could be without it for a while until someone edited it. I assumed-and of course there will be those who disagree-that leaving it out until it could be properly melded into the rest of the article is better than having a messy article. If it's important, it will be edited and restored.
Thanks and I always love feedback on my edits. Paul 03:04, 3 December 2005 (UTC)
Dell Hymes
A) I didn't say it was "absurd," I said it needed editing to fit in with the rest of the article. B) The watchlist (mostly) solves the problem of people looking at the history - you noticed that I removed the information, so you are then able to edit it so that it can be put back into the article. I assume you know more about the topic than I do, since you noticed the edit. Therefore, you noticed it was removed, and thus you are able to solve the problem. Best, Paul 17:15, 3 December 2005 (UTC)
- Actually, if you rewrote the info and put it back in the article, then the problem was solved--the beauty of WP, eh? Paul 17:16, 3 December 2005 (UTC)

Hi. Thanks for your help with Ellacuria's and Martín-Baró's bio's. I plan to work with Segundo Montes' soon. He was a sociologist and did very important work too. How did you first learn about them? albtho, 10 December, 2005.

Actually, it does fit. :) I'm part of the WP:1.0 project (well, kinda) which one of its subprojects are to improve Core topics. I wanted to expand museum greatly but I quickly lost interest. lol. I did like expanding Antarctica from its abysmal state. Well, thanks for comment, I like hearing feedback (positive and negative) about my contributions. - Those secondary lists are more of a preliminary list (which have been forgotten long ago), but yes, I completely agree, folklore should be listed in one of the top lists. You can leave a comment here and it'll be noted. I don't think it'll be part of the 100 or so core topics since culture and other similar topics are there, but you never know. I've never heard of Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, but I'll be sure to check it out. Thanks! Gflores Talk 04:29, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
Los Fabulosos Cadillacs
I listened to them earlier today and I am really liking their music. They have a rather eclectic sound. They're great! After listening to a few songs from Café Tacuba, I can't say the same. I don't know, maybe I'll listen to them some more and get used to them. Thanks for the recommendations. :) Gflores Talk 21:26, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
Jewish Americans...
Thanks for your reply. I understand what you are saying. Although I dont think that you grasp what I mean. Many peoples articles immediately state that Cathy is a Irish American politician, or Susan is a French American actress. It is quite common on wikipedia; I am not strategically targeting a certain group. What you said about refering to someone as a "white American President" and a "Protestant American President" is entirely different. Refering to someones skin color is not refering to really a specific race. For instance the white race is divided into many different ethnic groups such as the Slavs, Tuetoens, Mediteranean, baltics, and Jews. It goes for the same for Asians, they may look alike and saying that a Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, are all Asian it is correct in a sense but they are all different ethnic groups. When you say that PHDs are thinking that there is no ethinc group that is nonsense. A black person does not belong to the same race/ethnic group as a Chinese. This is known.
Although refering to someone by their religion is actually common on wikipedia. I see it quite often in opening lines to see John Balt is a Roman Catholic American actor. That is just referring to someones religion which is informative and gives insight to someones personality. Its pleasant to say this is a Italian American actor because each ethnic group has a rich heritage of history and a culture they can be proud of. Henry Kissinger is not really German but ethinically Jewish. He was born in Germany and maintains a German citizenship and could identify as German but he didnt originate from the same ethinic german tribe; he is a semite. That is why he is called a German-Jew. That is like a black man being born in Japan and being considered an ethinc Japanese. He would be identified as a black-Japanese or something along those lines. I hope I cleared this up. Also ones ethnic backround is something to be proud of. If someone said that this person is a French American actress it is done in a positive way, not a negative.
JJstroker 04:08, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
With regard to Henry Kissinger its true and it not only applies to him but others. If I were to move to France, I wouldnt be an ethnic french and I dont belong there. I actually have a French citizenship but I am not ethnically French in any way. I know that I am not really French no matter what political correctness says. No hard feelings I dont belong in Japan, I dont belong in France, and I dont belong in Africa I belong in the sudentenland with my original ethnic people and I am acceptable in Canada, Australia, US, etc but I dont belong in any other country. Also many Jews identify themselves as "German Jews" because it would be incorrect to strictly identify themselves as ethnic Germans. America is a melting pot of a million different cultures so its beneficial and informative for people to state their ethnic backrounds considering there is not one race which originated from this land except for native Americans which are also identified by their ethnic backround.
Now you are starting to see my viewpoint. Mexican-Americans, African-Americans, German Americans, Irish-Americans, are all Americans who just belong to different ethnic backrounds. To identify them as such is something that is informative and pleasant to see on wikipedia. Most people are proud of their heritage and freely state it, I dont see the controversy with identifying someone as a German American, Jewish American, Mexican American etc.
I didnt say all asians look alike but similar just like whites look similar. A Polish American could look just like an English American even if they belong to different ethnic groups; its not a big deal. I didnt mean it in any deragatory way. There are minor distinctions between whites and asians but overall all ethnic groups look the same.

Thanks... no problem. Yes, basically that is what happened. There was one user quickly replacing articles with that image, and several administrators were reverting them. Titoxd(?!? - help us) 04:42, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

You tagged this for being a copyright violation from an unknown source. Sorry, but how do you know it's a copyvio if you don't know where it came from? Thanks. howcheng {chat} 23:52, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
- Well, you're right, it's very suspicious. However, since I can't prove it at this time, I'm taking delisting it from WP:CP. Thanks for your continued vigilance. howcheng {chat} 16:58, 9 March 2006 (UTC)
NJ Collaboration of the Week
Thanks for participating in Wikiproject New Jersey. In an attempt to create articles for some of the non-existing pages related to New Jersey, NJCOTW was recently created to bring members of WP:NJ together to work collaboratively on a certain selected topic, which this week is List of Governors of New Jersey. Please help by nominating/voting/commenting on articles on WP:NJCOTW, or by helping to improve articles in the scope of the topic for the NJCOTW. AndyZ 00:44, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

I confess that I had not bothered to think about the opening since I worked on it last year (too many other things to think about). I agree that it is unWiki by failing to offer a proper definition in the opening sentence so I have recast the entire introduction. Thank you for prompting me to go back to it. Lindsay Hyde
The PROD tag that you added at 23:17, 15 August 2006 to the Lindsay Hyde article was removed by Groggy Dice with the following comment:
- (remove {PROD}: articles that have survived an AfD are ineligible for PROD)
The AfD which the article survived can be found at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Lindsay Hyde. I hope that this clarifies things. -- TruthbringerToronto (Talk | contribs) 06:17, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
- You wrote: "I even know half a dozen Canadians more notable and with wider impact than she has."
- If you think that Wikipedia would be better with articles on those Canadians, or the nonprofits that they are associated with, then please consider starting their articles.
- Also, I see that you live in Bound Brook, New Jersey. The first thing that came to mind when I saw that was that (I think) Voice of America or some other broadcaster has a shortwave broadcasting facility there. If such a facility is still there, could you add it to the Bound Brook, New Jersey article? And if there is an association related to Bruxism, you might want to add a bit about it to the Bruxism article. TruthbringerToronto (Talk | contribs) 02:15, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Fair enough. I know that Cohen told the joke frequently (and there are audio recordings that could be cited), but I suppose that doesn't mean he invented it. Perhaps it would be best to say that Cohen popularized it and leave the "origin" to be determined by those with greater knowledge? --Dante Alighieri | Talk 08:26, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
